AI skills become a competitive factor: Amadeus Fire Group launches initiative for funded in-company training

New training programmes from subsidiary GFN support SMEs in getting started with artificial intelligence – public funding can significantly reduce costs

Frankfurt/Main, 11 May 2026 – Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming the world of work, yet many companies in Germany are still not sufficiently prepared for this development. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in particular are under pressure: they need to integrate new technologies while facing facing a shortage of skilled workers and limited training budgets.

The Amadeus Fire Group is responding with a nationwide initiative to upskill employees in artificial intelligence. At its core is a training programme offered by the subsidiary GFN, specifically designed for the use of AI in day-to-day office work and comprehensively supported through public funding.

“Many companies know they need to act on AI – but they often lack time, budget and practical starting points,” says Nils Manegold, Managing Director of GFN. “That is exactly where we come in: we combine hands-on qualification with public funding and actively guide companies through the entire process. This makes training predictable, feasible and economically attractive.”

Public funding as a lever for transformation

The initiative is underpinned by Germany’s Qualification Opportunities Act (Qualifizierungschancengesetz, QCG), which supports companies in training their employees for new requirements arising from digitalisation. Depending on company size, course fees as well as parts of employees’ remuneration during the qualification period can be covered – funding rates of up to 100% are possible.

This lowers a key hurdle particularly for SMEs: training becomes not only essential in terms of content, but also financially achievable.

“The transformation of the world of work will only succeed if we invest consistently in qualification,” emphasises Monika Wiederhold, member of the Management Board of the Amadeus Fire Group. “The Qualification Opportunities Act offers companies an excellent opportunity to develop their employees in a targeted way while easing the financial burden. These opportunities need to be used much more widely.”

Focus on practical application in everyday work

The training programme “AI and Digitalisation in the Office” is aimed in particular at companies looking to equip their employees with practical skills for the use of AI. It covers, among other topics, the fundamentals of artificial intelligence, the use of modern AI tools and concrete application scenarios in typical office processes such as email communication, document creation and data analysis.

The programme is designed to be completed alongside work and can be flexibly integrated into day-to-day operations. This helps companies maintain operational performance while building future-relevant skills among employees.

Training as a response to the shortage of skilled workers

The initiative also addresses a structural challenge in the German labour market: the growing shortage of skilled workers. Instead of relying solely on external recruitment, the targeted development of existing employees is becoming increasingly important.

By combining publicly funded training, practice-oriented content and structured end-to-end support, the Amadeus Fire Group aims to help SMEs strengthen their competitiveness in a sustainable way.
